The Companies for Free and Low Cost Merchant Accounts or Online Payments....

What’s Merchant Accounts?

These are accounts you own with online payment processing companies. If you want to sell online, you need at least one. People marketing affiliate programs do not need one. The affiliate master handles all payment issues.

As with anything else you do online, you want to make sure the merchant you choose delivers on the things that are important to what you want and/or need. In this day and age, it is important that your merchant account offer Real Time Processing. This means having immediate credit card verification the same time the order is processed. The customer will know if their credit card was accepted or not.

Real time processing is very important if you are selling digital products. Digital products demand instant download and gratification. You don’t want to find out later that your customer’s card was not accepted after they’ve downloaded your product.

Below are my recommended merchant accounts:

1. ClickBank: ClickBank offers merchant account to people selling digital products (e-books and software) online. It has all in one solution for billing, marketing, and affiliate management. Using ClickBank gives you access to thousands of affiliates to market your product. They will bill the customer, pay you, and pay the affiliates.

ClickBank charges merchants a one time fee of $49.95 and 7.5% plus $1.00 for each sale. If your product is priced at $50.00, you will need to sell at least two in you first year to get your Return On Investment (ROI). In fact you will have a profit of $45.30 for selling only 2 products.

2. PayPal: PayPal is a very popular merchant account processor. It is especially great for beginners. Most people offer it as secondary online account to go with their other merchant accounts. This is a way of giving customers more payment options.

PayPal is free to setup, which is one reason it is ideal for beginners. They do charge business accounts to receive payments. Their charge is from 2.2% + $0.30 to 2.9% + $0.30 of payment you receive. Since they only charge you to receive funds, you do not incur any expenses until you make a sale. This makes your initial Return on Investment (ROI) zero.

3. 2Checkout: 2Checkout is a good online merchant account. They handle digital products and hard goods. The only thing is that they do not handle affiliate program. If you want affiliates selling your product, you need to go with someone else.

2Checkout charges a one time setup fee of $49.00. After that they charge you 5.5% + $0.45 for each sale you make.

If your product is priced at $50.00, you will need to sell two in your first year to get your Return On Investment (ROI). Your profit will be $47.86 for selling only 2 products.
